Text: Ephesians 6:10-13, 16
Intro…His name is Radovan Karadzic...once the leader of the Basmian Serbs and accused of Genocide, had been one of the most wanted men in the world. By growing a long, white beard, carrying false papers, and practicing alternative medicine, he fooled everyone...for a while. After 13 years in hiding, he was finally arrested. The Bible tells us that Satan is also in the business of fooling people with "disguises". He "masquerades as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14), but the Lord Jesus has "unmasked" him and revealed his true identity..."a liar and the father of lies". (John 8:44)
* How do you view satan? People often err at two extremes in their view of satan. 1). Some dismiss him or pay little attention to him at all. 2). While others attribute more power to him than he deserves.
"How to Gain Victory Over the Devil"
1). "Stand Firm" against the schemes of the devil. (verse 11) See: John 1:12, Colossians 2:13-15, & 1 John 4:4
2). We must take up the "Shield of Faith" to be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16 * What are the flaming arrows or fiery darts of the evil one? (See 2 Corinthians 2:5-11)
3). "Resist" in the evil day. (Ephesians 6:13) * Resist temptation! (See Luke 4:1-13) * Why was it necessary for Jesus to be tempted? a). For Jesus to be fully human, for Him to understand us completely He had to face temptation. b). Jesus had to undo Adam's work. (See Romans 5:12-19)
"Some Thoughts on Temptation from Luke 4:"
1). Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us into times of temptation. (verse 1)
2). Temptation will often come after a high point in our Spiritual lives.
3). Often we are tempted not through our weaknesses, but through our strengths.
4). Knowing and obeying God's Word is an effective weapon against temptation.
5). We must constantly "Be on guard" against the devil's attacks. (verse 13)
